2007 BMW 3-Series 328CI Coupe

2007 BMW 3-Series

328CI Coupe

• 2,996 cc 3 liters in-line 6 front engine with 85 mm bore, 88 mm stroke, 10.7 compression ratio, double overhead cam, variable valve timing/camshaft and four valves per cylinder N52
• Premium unleaded fuel 91
• Fuel economy EPA highway (mpg): 29 and EPA city (mpg): 20
• Multi-point injection fuel system
• 15.9 gallon main premium unleaded fuel tank
• Power: 172 kW , 230 HP SAE @ 6,500 rpm; 200 ft lb , 271 Nm @ 2,750 rpm

328i Coupe Highlights: Double-VANOS
Allows the engine to “steplessly” choose valve timing for intake and exhaust camshafts. Electronically controlled in response to engine speed, load and temperature.

Dynamic Brake Control
When it is necessary to build up brake pressure as quickly as possible, Dynamic Brake Control can speed up and reinforce this process, helping to provide the shortest possible stopping distance.
Adaptive Light Control
These lights automatically swivel to follow the curves of the road. The system uses on-board sensors and steering wheel angle to determine the car’s direction, then adjusts the headlights accordingly.

Dynamic Stability Control
Provides remarkable tenacity on slippery road surfaces. If the system senses over or understeer, it modulates engine power and can apply brakes individually to help keep the vehicle under control.
Rain Sensor
Uses infrared light to measure the amount of rain. When the wipers are in the “intermittent” mode, the rain sensor automatically adjusts the windshield-wiping interval as needed.

BMW 328i/328xi Sedan

BMW 328i/328xi Sedan

BMW redesigns the coupe version of its best-selling car for 2007 to bring it in line with the sedan and wagon which were redesigned for 2006. The coupes have their own styling and are available for the first time with all-wheel drive. Compared to the 1999-2006 versions, they are 3.6 inches longer, 1.7 inches wider, and more than 200 lb heavier. The 3-Series sedan and coupe come as 328i, all-wheel-drive 328xi, and 335i models. Wagons are offered as the 328i or 328xi. No convertibles or high-performance M3 models are offered for 2007.

All '07s have a 3.0-liter inline 6-cyl engine. The 328i and 328xi have 230 hp and replace 215-hp 325i models. The 335i models are turbocharged and have 300 hp; they replace 255-hp 330i models. All have a standard 6-speed manual transmission or optional 6-speed automatic. ABS and traction/antiskid control are standard, as are front side airbags and head-protecting tubular side airbags that cover both seating rows.

All models have run-flat tires and a sunroof. Steering-linked xenon headlights are standard on coupes and 335i sedans, optional otherwise. Firmer suspension and seats with extra side bolstering are standard on rear-drive coupes, available in a Sport Package on rear-drive sedans and wagons. All rear-drive models are offered with BMW's Active Steering that quickens steering response at low speeds. BMW's iDrive is included with an available navigation system and uses a console knob to control entertainment, navigation, communication, and some other functions. Among other options: leather upholstery, heated front seats, rear obstacle detection, adaptive cruise control, and BMW Assist service with a wireless cell phone link.

BMW 3-Series

BMW 3-Series

The 3-Series is BMW's entry-level model in the near-luxury segment, offered in sedan, coupe, convertible and wagon versions. A descendant of the mid-'60s BMW 1600, considered by many automotive enthusiasts to be the first compact sedan to offer sports-car performance, the 3-Series has continued to be the benchmark of sport sedans.

The 3-Series designation first appeared in America in 1977, and the car evolved from a rather boxy shape to a fluid, aerodynamic design and the sedan and wagon now incorporate BMW’s new design language. The previous-generation 3-Series sedan was introduced as a 1999 model. The 3-Series Sedan and 3-Series Sports Wagon are redesigned and updated for the 2006 model year while the coupe and convertible carryover the 2005 styling for 2006.

For 2007 a new line for the 3-Series Coupe joins the lineup available in three trims: 328i, 328xi and 335i. The first inline six-cylinder engine with twin-turbochargers, high precision fuel injection and an all-aluminum crankcase is introduced to the 335i that produces 300 horsepower.
